”art is too important not to share”
-romero britto
art is powerfully healing for me. Sharing my art with others who enjoy it brings me so much joy.
I come from a family full of artistic talents - art and design is in my blood. From the moment I was able to use a pencil, I began drawing and exploring my talents. Every Christmas or birthday, my lists consisted of art supplies instead of toys. Besides art classes in school, I am self taught with a lot of guidance and inspiration from my late grandmother and my parents.
I graduated from Nandua High and began my dream job as a hairstylist in 2005. I became a mother two short years after. Art was put on the back burner for a while until 2014 when I painted my first acrylic painting for a close friend. From then on out it’s become a big part of my life. I am forever grateful for our wonderful community in our small home town full of the best supporters who have gotten me to where I am today with my art.
I am fulfilling my childhood dreams of being a hairstylist and an artist.
I use many different mediums, mostly acrylics and pyrography, but I like to mix it up sometimes with colored pencils & watercolors. I refer to myself as an ”eclectic artist”. I like to explore with a variety of different styles.
I was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Virginia with deep family history. I have never left. My biggest inspiration goes to my late grandmother, Yvonne Marshall Widgeon. She was born on Hog Island (one of our barrier islands). She was also the last girl to be born on the island and moved to Willis Wharf, Va when she was two years old. I grew up in that same town which is why most of my work is seafood related. Oyster cans are my most popular pieces. Every time I paint them, I think of her. I would also like to add that I am also known as a competitive oyster eater, which is why oyster paintings are popular pieces of mine. Painting anything from home brings me so much peace. Fortunately we are surrounded by so much beauty on the Shore and will always inspire me to create.
Stay tuned!
